Portals to Learning is pleased to announce the availability of Behavior Specialist services provided by Ron Rubin, Safe Schools Consultant/Crisis Prevention and Management Project.

 Ron provides consultation to parents and guardians whose children are exhibiting challenging behaviors at home and/or in school.  He views discipline as an opportunity to help children learn skills that lead to self-control and responsibility rather than as an opportunity to do something to them or their families.  The purposes of a behavioral consultation or series of consultations are to:

1. Help identify the motivations of the challenging behavior or behaviors;
2. Suggest strategies, approaches, and/or supports to be used at home and/or in school aimed at preventing and responding to the behavior in humane and effective ways; and to
3. Address follow-up issues as may be necessary to be of assistance to the child, his or her family and/or school (e.g. participation in IEP or Educational Support Team meetings, development of strengths-based behavior plans, etc.)
